I look at some of the negative reviews and just laugh at the absurdity. Let's cover some things first and then I will comment on the product.1. This Kyocera julienne slicer isn't a professional mandoline slicer, but a very sharp twenty-dollar plastic kitchen utensil. This Kyocera julienne slicer is designed to be used while seated on a bowl. The combs on the bottom of the tool grip the bowl very well.3. This julienne slicer from Kyocera is made from 98% molded Chinese polymers, none of which are hard stainless steel. If it were, the cost would have skyrocketed.4. This Kyocera Julienne slicer can be stored with the finger guard over the blades and secured in a drawer in a horizontal position with a rubber band. With these facts in mind, I can say that this tool is a very handy kitchen gadget. It will do its job as intended until you force it to do something it should never do. For example, you can't stand this Kyocera julienne cutter over a bowl and try to slice tomatoes or lean on it to cut sweet potatoes. I can't compare it to a professional mandolin in my life. Slicer Julien costs ten times more money. It's like comparing an iPad to Etch-A-Sketch. The ceramic blades are VERY SHARP as they are Japanese made ceramic blades among the best in the world. As with any mandolin style slicer, you MUST wear a cut resistant glove as this is much less painful and less expensive than a trip to the emergency room.
