I have never owned a cat fountain before, and I was pretty hesitant on spending 30ish bucks on what seemed to me a glorified water dish. I adopted two cats a year ago, and my vet told me that kidney and urinary tract medical problems can pop up in cats if they dont drink enough water, especially in male cats. I noticed that every time i turned on the kitchen tap, my male cat would always jump up to drink out of the tap, even though the water bowl was always there. He seemed to like the running water alot more. Which, if you think about it, wild instincts probably would tell him that running water would be cleaner than standing water.So I decided to take a chance on this fountain after reading the other reviews, and I can tell you that I would definitely buy it again. I have noticed both cats are drinking more water from this than they did from their old water bowl. Male cat will still occasionally jump up to drink from the tap, but it's less frequent.This will only start making noise if the water level gets too low, otherwise it's very quiet. Yes, it takes more maintenance than a standard water dish, but when i think of the vet bill money i'm potentially saving from urinary/kidney issues down the road, I think it's worth it.Edit - some months after my initial review, I stand by everything above, except I will add that its important to clean it at minimum a couple of times a month, or else it will get pretty gross inside, as its not stainless steel.
