UPDATE: I decided to look inside since they weren't working. . . what can hurt So glad I did! There are three small screws on the underside of the sun cover. Remove them and the thin lid will come off. Inside was a rechargeable solar NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery. I found one at my local Batteries Plus for less than $2 and my hummingbirds are glowing again! Also, they now go from dusk to dawn, which has never happened before. It's amazing what a fresh battery can do. He must have been quite old when he was sent to us. The only problem now is that the bottom two birds are no longer glowing. I plan to look inside again and see if anything is disconnected, maybe I can solder it back on. But after 5 months they stopped working. It all started with just one bird being weaker than the others, and after a couple of weeks they all disappeared. Would I buy it again if it lasts a few years but starts to deteriorate after 4 months? nope I do not recommend.
