Review on πŸ“Ÿ Garmin Forerunner 210: Advanced GPS Watch for Fitness Enthusiasts by Paul Barnes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to use, works well.

I struggled for weeks which GPS watch to get finally settled on 210, the other watch seemed to have 1001 settings that I needed to adjust while the others only show distance. The 210 strikes an excellent balance between ease of use and essential features. Advantages: >> Stupidly just turn it on and let it run. One push of a button and it searches for satellites and is ready to start the timer. >> Portable style / good size. I wouldn't feel weird wearing the watch while running and it's not uncomfortable.>> Tracking on the Garmin Connect website. Uploading a run to the Garmins website is quick and easy, and the site has a lot of great tools too. >> The heart rate monitor registers me very quickly and gives a stable signal. >> Works well in wooded areas and neighborhoods. No signal loss has been detected yet.>> Four physical buttons. No silly touchscreen or dial, just four large buttons on the outside that I can press without looking at my watch. Cons: >> By default only lap pace and total distance are shown, not current pace and lap distance. Playing around with the settings for 20 minutes while lying on the couch will change that, but it would still be nice if they were preset differently. >> Ready workouts on the connect site are somewhat limited, but I didn't purchase a GPS watch for Ready workouts. >> On the Connect sites, the speed and heart rate charts are not aligned vertically, making comparison a bit difficult. But still clear enough to see what's going on. >> The watch does not support user-created online workouts that the watch prompts you to do while running. I think it's the price. Other reviewers have complained about the way it connects to the computer, I found it simple and easy. There are four pins on the back of the watch where you attach the included alligator clip and that's it - then it's like a regular USB device on a computer. Aligning the four pins may take a second, but it's pretty easy. About a week after I announced that I was using mine, my girlfriend bought the same 210 and I had no hesitation in recommending it to her.
