Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Dorman 697-507 Black Differential Yoke by Danny Robertson

Too tight to tighten the splines

I ended up reusing the original drive flange with the slightly pitted sealing surface in place of this new one. The Dorman drive flange was so tight to the gear splines that I gave up after pushing it down a few millimeters with the gear nut for fear it would only be half seated. If I had made a tool to keep the drive flange from turning rather than relying on the diff internals to hold it still, I'd happily put a lot more force on the nut and maybe screw it in. but I could have gotten stuck halfway and couldn't pull it off even with a large puller. then I would be really screwed. Flange wedge spacing too narrow. That (serious!) issue aside, was the flange the same thickness as the original, as opposed to others that were thinner? - and there was a plastic cup to protect the oil seal from road litter - a nice touch. The seal was ok. It takes some force to insert. To avoid possible distortion, you need to buy or make a tool to drive it evenly. If you hit the edge with a hammer you risk twisting it or damaging the sealing lip.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions
