I'm trying to lose weight, I use them twice a day to blend my SlimFast shakes. So I know their way of working and their strengths and weaknesses very well. It's all plastic, three parts. The bottom of the cup holds the liquid. Then there's an arched top with a vented top on top. Then there's a lid that screws onto the vent to close it so you can shake it. The dome cover is simply friction fitted, with no strings or clips. Screwing the cap onto the vent creates enough suction to hold the cap in place while you shake it. To remove the cap, you must first unscrew the vent cap and let in air to break the seal. There is a scale on one side that shows how much liquid is in the cup. But the LETTERS do not mark the real volume. Each letter weighs 2 ounces (1/4 cup). So 8 ounces (1 cup) corresponds to the line marked "D”. I do not recommend washing this in a mechanical dishwasher. The marks on the scale are applied only with paint, the washing nozzles in the dishwasher erase the mark after several washes. So wash by hand. The plastic isn't very brittle, but if you drop the mug from 4 or 5 feet it can still break. The plastic is a bit brittle. So you don't have to treat it like porcelain, but be careful with it if you plan on using it for more than a few months. Pro Chemist Tip: When mixing a powder with a liquid, first pour about 1 to 2 ounces of the liquid into a cup, then add all of the powder and stir with a spoon until you get a kind of sediment forms. Then add another 2 ounces of liquid and keep stirring until most of the powder has dissolved. Then add the remaining liquid, cover with lid and cap, and shake long enough to completely dissolve the powder.
