These are very powerful heating pads. When using for reptiles, turn the knob just until it clicks. That's as far as you want to spin the wheel. I bought two of these about 3 months ago and they work great. If you turn the knob after the click (beep) is on, the temperature will rise rapidly. Keep it on the lowest setting and your reptiles will be fine. It would be nice to set the number on the dial. Remember, once you hear the "click" when you turn it on, leave it in that position. Maybe turn it another millimeter, but check the heat dissipation.
