Review on Sunlite SL23PAR38 Energy Saving Medium by Yoganand Stradley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lifetime of over 8000 hours as stated on the packaging.

I installed an outdoor light on the front of my one story home, pointing directly at the front gate and stairway leading down from the street below. It well illuminates the spot where a stranger can stand and unlock the gate. It always had an amber PAR38 (85W - 100W) spotlight - bright enough to illuminate the area and shine a would-be intruder in the face, but not one of those nasty blue and white security lights that spoil the atmosphere of a peaceful evening It's sharp, an overwhelming light and a nasty electrical buzz. I leave it on 24/7 (yes, I'm constantly looking for a photo sensor that works in this setting). When the first CF PAR38 bulbs came out in this color I immediately bought one to save energy. I've used several different brands but in recent years it's been Sunlite as other companies have discontinued the CF PAR38 in that colour. On my most recent purchase, the Sunlite bulb was dead on arrival; but amazon immediately sent a free replacement (and didn't force me to send the bad one back). The rating on the box says 8000 hours and I usually get a full year of service (8760 hours). I live in the mild climate of Southern California, so you may not get the same mileage if it rains or snows heavily or is very cold outside.

Pros
  • ENERGY EFFICIENT – With a power consumption of only 23 watts, these compact fluorescent lamps produce as much light as a 100 watt incandescent lamp. Your estimated energy cost is $2.77 per year at 3 hours per day at $0.11 per kWh.
Cons
  • Reliability
