Well Done - 40 pounds still weighs 40 pounds

Carrying 40 pound bags of processing salt up and down the stairs is no longer easy. I have this in hopes it will help. Yes, it really helps, but it still takes a lot of effort to use. The device can be opened easily for use. It comes with a bungee strap. I carry it in the car (easy) and open it (easy too). I take a 40# bag out of the car and put it on the platform. It tilts back a bit to stay in place while I use the elastic band to keep the bag in place. The cart rolls easily across the garage floor to the steps of the house. Climbing the stairs to the house is quite easy. Just pull and the wagon wheels will do their job and you will go to the top. While you can rest in the middle of the stairs, you can't let go. The stairs to the basement were also easy to reach. Getting off is harder. Move the cart forward and it will suddenly pop on the first step. I was better prepared for the next step and slowly lowered the cart onto the next step, which was much easier thanks to the wheels. I can't let go of the cart in the middle of the stairs or it will just roll down the rest of the stairs. Rather, I should go down one step, hold onto the railing with one hand, and carefully lower the 40# trolley onto the next step. Repeat 14 times to go down the stairs to the basement. Once there, I found that I was better off tipping the cart backwards and using the stair-climbing wheels to roll the cart than using the four casters at the bottom of the cart platform. They work, but bigger wheels worked better. Undoing the strap and removing the salt bag went smoothly. I then tried to get out of the car and pull up the stairs. It worked, but it was very noisy and the car rattled with every step. It was easier to fold the cart up and use one hand to lift it up the steps, through the kitchen, down the steps to the car, unfold and repeat the process for the next bag of salt. It's MUCH easier for a 20-year-old man to carry a bag (or two) of softening salt down to the basement without using a cart than it is for an older man to lower a bag onto a cart. (I really appreciate my son!) When no other help is available, the trolley is a great step up from the time-consuming and dangerous method of lowering bags one step at a time while holding onto the railing. This makes the trolley a welcome second choice for me when my son is busy and the water softener needs salt! The trolley is strong enough that I don't have to worry about it breaking or collapsing when moving the salt bags.
