Review on Petmate Litter Catcher Extra Large by Chelsea Hicks

Large litter box suitable for cats

We have 2 cats and their litter box is in a small pantry. The room is perfect as it is located behind the powder room in the basement. We use a "cat door" (look for it - highly recommended!) to give them access so you can keep the door closed. I collected some rugs, cheap artificial grass, etc. to try and close the space between the box and the door. This rug is LARGE and fits almost perfectly in the room. I don't have to use extra parts or worry about them being moved or scattered. The rug is fairly durable, fully waterproof and does a great job of trapping stray dirt and accidents. I actually bought a second rug to make up for the only downside. While carpet is great at catching the mess that doesn't stay in the box, cleaning carpet is quite difficult. Most dry litter can be vacuumed off the mat, but if your cats, like mine, occasionally skip the litter box, it can be difficult to remove clumps of litter once they get into the mesh of the mat. If it's warm outside and you have a pressure washer, you can blow up trash. However, trying to remove stubborn dirt from the mat or cleaning it by hand is a chore. The second mat allows me to change it regularly and take the time to clean the dirty one. I've used several options to deodorize the mat between changes that seem to work pretty well: vinegar/water solution, sports equipment deodorant, and Febreeze. I'm not sure if the latter does anything other than mask the smell, and I have no idea if cats can tell. The first two address bacterial/microbial issues in addition to odor. I've tried several other mats. This was the best I found. If for any reason I need another one I will buy it again.
