From Apple to Garmin Best in Sports & Handheld GPS

I bought this Garmin watch because I was training for a triathlon. The transition from the Apple Watch Series 4 to Garmin was kind of a transition at first. To be honest I hated it for the first week. Once you get used to the buttons and menu layout, it becomes clear that the device does a really good job. After doing a lot of research on other watches and devices, I really think this is one of the best options out there. This works very well when it comes to tracking and consistency. If you're into structured training that comes from training spikes, that's phenomenal. One thing the videos don't cover very well is how to create a structured workout and it will actually tell you if you're going at a low or high pace during an activity/interval. Coming from Apple you might think that a touchscreen is better, but if you've ever tried swimming you'll find out very quickly that a button might be the best option. Also, you might not know how great it is to have your screen on all the time. Or how much better not to charge the watch every day. The battery life is insane! For example, you can do 12 GPS workouts a week and probably still be running on battery power. This watch also interacts very well with my Tacx trainer, you can stream your heart rate or have full control of the trainer with the watch. Things I don't like: The GPS isn't as accurate as the Apple Watch, if you don't go out of range you'll have trouble getting accurate heart rate readings. Learning rates can be pretty annoying. For some reason it's set up to give you an effort level for the first 3/4 mile of your run. Nothing beats an unproductive notification when you're in the middle of a workout. If you are behind and do not turn off the VO2max calculation, your overall VO2max will be affected immediately. If you get into all that heart-rate sensor nonsense, it's almost completely useless at sea level. If you want to save battery life, you need to turn it off or use it while sleeping. The Force section of the app is really cool, but it doesn't work like that at all. Basically, it never tracks your reps properly. Great concept but very disappointing. Spotify is pretty clunky and not as easy to access as it is on the Apple Watch, but it loads a lot faster and I've never had any trouble playing music. (Available on the Apple Watch). All in all I sent the watch back. Many of the above features are included in the previous model. Most new watches from Coros, Polar and other Garmins have similar if not identical settings at a lower price point. I'll probably take this watch again one day, but when a new model comes out, the price will go down a bit.
