I bought this for my bedroom door. The door has a combination lock for outside access. The housing office has an encryption code and I understand why they need it, but I don't like them entering my room while I'm inside because they don't give me enough time to open the door. So as long as I walk to the door after they knock, if they decide to just open the door before I answer, the chain will stop them. Of course I don't care if they come in while I'm not there, but while I'm there I prefer to keep them at a distance until I open the door. I installed it on a double thickness plywood door and solid wood door frame, it was pretty easy. First I drilled the pilot holes, after that it was easy. This chain lock does not prevent anyone from entering the door by force, especially if it is the only security.
