Replace the battery yourself!

I've been using this product for about 2 years and haven't had any annoying problems with the product itself. The hydraulic cleaner works great, as does the toothbrush. After 2 years of use, however, the battery no longer held a charge. I thought ok just change the battery and it will work again. I checked the owner's manual and it clearly states that there is no replacement battery for the toothbrush and that once it runs out of charge the entire toothbrush unit will need to be replaced. However, Waterpik gives clear instructions on how to remove the battery in order to dispose of it properly. WHAT? Being a fairly nimble guy I took a quarter and removed the bottom seal and got access to the battery. Nothing special about the battery. It's just 2 AAA battery cells glued together and have small contacts soldered to the wires that connect the battery to the electronics in the brush. So I unsoldered the wires and took the battery to Batteries Plus. I asked them if they could make me a new one and they said no problem! The old battery was rated at 640mAh and the new one at 1600mAh! This means I can now take the brush with me on a weekend trip and the battery lasts in the toothbrush. I paid about $11 for a new battery, brought it home, soldered it to the wires, and I have a great toothbrush again. . Too bad for Waterpik that it uses such a small capacity battery in the first place and doesn't make it easy to swap out the battery. If anyone wants to see how to change the battery, check out the Gattago project on YouTube.
