Bee Guards Work in Birds

We have used Perky Pet Pinch-Waist Oriole feeders for many years and they have always been great. They withstood the year-round South Florida sunshine well, attracted spotted and Baltimore oriole and hummingbirds dozens of times a day, and had copious amounts of nectar. And for many years we never had a problem with bees. However, this year we have a huge problem with bees. In the morning we hung a new full feeder and when we got home from work we found exhausted and literally half-full dead bees. They swarm within seconds of hanging it, chasing away any bird that approaches. We tried everything to scare the bees away: we put highly concentrated nectar in the waterer (which doesn't attract them - they suck it up in hours too), we removed the oriole scale for a week and then put it on. a fresh new one somewhere else, we went to a nursery and bought bouquets of bee-friendly flowering plants, etc. We did everything together and still within a minute or two the bees found a new feeding spot and started swarming it again. So, while I've never had much luck with previous bee-proof designs, I started looking for a new bee-proof feeder. Everyone I've found has had mixed reviews of Guard Bee at best. But this design seemed promising to me, and all the people who didn't have guards said that this wasn't a design flaw, it was simply a problem with too weak springs. I decided to give it a try, I think even if it doesn't work I could increase the power of the spring myself. As soon as I hung this feeder, even though the feeder wasn't put up for another week, there was a bee. before I even had time to get back inside. She checked the bee guards but didn't seem to find any sugar and left. I saw single bees the rest of the day but never got a swarm. And after 10 minutes I already had the Oriole! When I got home from work the next day there were about 8 bees around one of the guards and they were clearly gulping down nectar from the edge of the field. guard. All three other guards were clean. Individual bees tried intermittently but seemed to get nothing. I watched the bees for a few minutes, and although they pushed with all their might, I never saw any of them even remotely push the protective cover. It's been a week and we're still getting a group of a few bees at a time or two. Guards, but no bees came to the feeder, and since their numbers are very small, they usually do not disturb the birds. I still get a lot of orioles and hummingbirds. While I wish the bees would leave it completely alone, it has worked well enough so far that I would definitely recommend this feeder. It also appears to be made from a more durable plastic and is designed to be easier to clean.
