Review on TiVo AN0100 Wireless Network Adapter by Cody Stroop

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Interesting.

Reading the 1 star reviews I couldn't help but wonder what these people were doing as some of their comments are definitely wrong; The adapter definitely supports encryption. Again it was a little confusing with the setup. We already have a streaming setup for our Tivo with the old G adapter and apart from the occasional stream rebuffering - this seems more to do with streaming content than network - we haven't had any issues. What we had: Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Broadband Router. Tive Wireless G Adapter What we have now: ASUS Black Diamond Wireless-N 600 (RT-N56U) Dual Band Ghz Router with my usual devices (iMac, WinXP PC, iPad, iPhone, Droid 3, Tivo HD with old adapter) to 2 .4 GHz and Tivo HD XL with N adapter on 5 GHz network for best streaming experience. They seem to be working fine, with a strong signal and no gaps. Router Choice: Some people have complained that the Tivo adapter doesn't work with the Apple Airport Extreme, which is more likely an issue with the Airport Extreme, but ASUS is the top-rated dual-band router on Revain, what's more is twice the price of the single-band router with the top-rated Medialink - Wireless N Router. Dual-band can be useful for splitting network traffic into its own band, AKA network, so content streaming isn't getting in the way of other wireless devices. interface, the Tivo N adapter was difficult to set up. My ignorance meant connecting the Tivo N apapter directly to my iMac using an ethernet cable. It takes a few minutes for the Tivo adapter to warm up, but then I was able to set up the adapter without any problems, the only problem was that the switch on the bottom defaulted to Bridge when it was meant to be on the client, which meant to reset the adapter. and repeat the process. What I will do: I will give it a few more days and assuming the Tivo works well I will replace the Wireless G adapter with the Tivo HD, our friend Tivo with the Wireless N adapter. Now that I know how easy setup can be, this should be easy, even easier now that I've found the WPS button on my router. Setup as I understand it (WPS hard way): - Set up your Wireless N Router with WPA2. but the adapter supports WPA1, WPA2, WEP and nothing. Make sure the adapter switch on the bottom is set to Client. Connect the network cable and power cables to the adapter. Browser (Safari worked for me, not Chrome), connect to 192.168.10.1. Please be patient as it took some time for Tivo to turn on. After connecting the Tivo and PC, follow the instructions.
