My old Faberware coffee maker that I bought on sale about five years ago has completely burned out and it's time to look for a new one. I haven't been to many flea markets or estate sales this year due to Covid, so I haven't had the opportunity to replace it with another vintage perculator. After so many reviews of different percolators I was blown away to say the least. For the brands I usually lean towards, the reviews were either out of date or not very good at all. I was also looking for a smaller coffee maker knowing I was going to be pouring a lot of coffee down the drain. I saw this Gastrorag coffee maker and although I wasn't familiar with the brand the reviews were pretty good so I decided to give it a try. I've had it for a few weeks now and I'm in love! It took me about a week to set the right amount of coffee and "season" the pot like a good old cast iron skillet. Anyone used to percolators will understand what I mean. I grew up listening to them and I remember waking up as a kid to the smell of coffee all over the house. But let's talk about this wonderful little device! As soon as I unpacked it, I noticed that I already had a well-made device in terms of weight! It's durable stainless steel, which is important. The lid has a glass handle. There is a plastic washer, but the coffee doesn't touch it. All internal parts and the lid are dishwasher safe and the pot is easy to clean. I still have to get used to the on/off switch. ☺️ I read reviews that some people had a problem with "overflow" because they overflowed it. I'll admit that the maximum level line is sometimes hard to see when filling the percolator with water, but I found an easy fix after making this mistake once. I use the spout holes as a reference. I only fill water between a top hole and the next two and haven't had this problem since. I also read that some people had trouble getting soil into the water. I use the good old Costco Folgers and have had no problems. This small coffee maker brews rich, aromatic coffee and keeps it hot until the end without scorching. It has an auto shut off when the coffee runs out and another great feature is that you can turn it off and take it to the table and as long as you plug it back in before it drops below a certain temperature it won't turn on again . . So far so good. With proper care (according to the manufacturer's instructions) I will enjoy this small percolator for a very long time! Finally, I would like to mention a cool "not a real person” review on YouTube. I had a good laugh and I hope you did too! Update: 2/20/21 There was some coffee grounds in my coffee with my old replacement followers. But that didn't bother me enough to justify using paper filters. I make the coffee settle early after it's done, prevent the pot from overflowing, and pour slowly so you don't tip over what might be at the bottom when you hit the bottom of the pot. Nonetheless, this is an amazing little percolator and I am very happy with my purchase.
