Review on Netdot Gen7 6 by Tony Conlon

Nice concept but poor durability negates its value.

If they work, they're great. But they have inherent design limitations that are compounded by the rapid drop in durability. My goal in sourcing magnetic charging cables was to quickly snap the cable into place with little effort and trust that it would just start charging. This is particularly useful in a car, especially as it supports Android Auto. However, by design, the magnetic connection is still subject to separation due to angular forces. For example, if the phone is on a side table and the charging port/cable is on the edge, gravity on the cable may be enough to break the charging connection. This often happens after the phone has been moved or bumped and I think the phone is charging when it isn't. Added to this is the poor durability. I've been using them regularly for only 3 months and my phone often fails to connect to the cable. Often times, it won't even connect once it's fully engaged. Should I flip it or disconnect and reconnect. I've had to plug it in a couple of times assuming everything is fine, only to come back to the phone with 5% battery left. Now I need to be careful to check the loading animation. I want them to work, but for now I'm switching back to standard USB-C and wireless charging. Maybe other brands work better, but I can't afford to experiment like that.
