Review on Compact 1500W Portable Electric Heater: Ideal for Indoor Use – with Thermostat, 3 Modes, and Overheat Protection by Natalie Noleal

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Okay I think when used in a controlled environment the overheat protection is good with no flashover.

When I was a teenager a few decades ago, I saw one of those old gray farmhouse heaters set a neighbor's garage on fire. They were lucky that some old overalls and a stack of newspapers burned down, but the building itself didn't catch fire. So it was that in winter the owner would heat his shop and leave it unattended, and the lap dog would knock him over. It had steel guards on the opening to prevent it from falling to the ground, but it fell on newspaper soaked in motor oil. Thus, intense heat an inch from the paper ignited the fire. The owner smelled smoke and brought a fire extinguisher. Back then, not everyone had a smoke detector, especially not in the garage. Most heaters I have have a retractable button to turn them off if they tip over. This one doesn't tip over easily, but when it does it lays flush and I don't know how quickly the overheating will set in. I will say that when there is something easy to burn, it may be too late. This can damage the carpet or hardwood floor or worse. The design helps a bit, but he can still use that switch. I like the low temperature setting for heating under the table or near it, but the tipping hazard is still there. I can't recommend it without that particular security feature, the good news is that it's easy to add and apart from that the device is pretty well built.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Long wait
