Review on Enhanced Soldering Workshop: Fstop Labs Non Slip Solution by John Murphy

Inaccurate positioning

It looked like a really good product. I needed a little more than my little third hand - one with a small magnifying glass and wing nuts to hold the clamps in place. Looks like this is the replacement I needed. Unfortunately, not only do the arms not flex enough to get the workpiece as close to the base as possible (I put my hand on the workbench for more complex soldering jobs), they also spring. Positioning parts to solder together is a pain. Imagine you are trying to solder a wire to a pad on a circuit board. You clamp the wire on one arm, the circuit board on one or two arms. Then you try to bend the lever with the wire so that it stays on the PCB pad. Not easy. The arm with the wire just springs back, so you have to bend it past the point where you want it and hope it springs back to where you need it. I'm working on replacing these levers with flexible coolant hoses used on CNC machines. They hold their positions well.
