Review on πŸ” Cisco-Linksys BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL Router: Enhanced Connectivity with 4-Port 10/100 Switch by Mike Cody

I will never buy a refurbished one again

/me sighs: I finally have a good Interwebz again. With two computers and a neighbor with poor wifi, I was only able to get a good connection on one computer. I was fed up so ordered what I've had plenty of experience with in the past, I've had about 4 of these before. I use a lot of BitTorrent traffic to download and download various -nix distros and other FOSS and CC files and every other router I've ever tried crashed after about 5 minutes of BT traffic. The BEFSR41 is my personal favorite and I'm glad I got it here at a decent price. I definitely recommend this router. I fixed this one and there is nothing wrong with it other than a few minor issues with its setup. UPnP port forwarding is one of its features that I'm excited about, uTorrent showed everything in green on connections. I didn't notice any drop in network speed like some other routers. Easy install, good features, reliable performance, solid body, nice body, overall an A+ in my book. I was suffering from a broken router GUI (at 192.168.1.1). The router doesn't accept UPnP, although I was able to configure it to accept UPnP. When I start uTorrent my mIRC connection drops and my web connection drops to around 300 kbps; After much frustration and even a firmware update, I decided to give up trying to get it to work. Once I've saved some money I'll buy a brand new router and most likely put it in front of my archery target. The only reason I'm still giving the router 2 stars instead of 1 is because firstly, the one I have is refurbished and the NIBs I've owned in the past have not suffered from these issues, but secondly, because my problems can only be related to my router and not all recovered ones.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Almost never
