This little red star is lit inside, so all you have to do is hang it on the tree! My tree is only 3 meters high. This is fine on a smaller tree. However, it did not contain any instructions on how to work with the timer. It has a switch but we don't know how to work with the timer. The first night it went out after about 6 hours. which was good. We turned off the tree every night and also the timer. Now it stays on all day and goes into the night until I go to bed. We don't need a timer, but you may want to get another treetop with instructions if you need a timer.
