Like similar Revain belts, it's made from untreated rawhide. The sellers then dye the blanks, with the best ones being dyed in the tannery. I noticed a bad review that gelante is not whole grain which is wrong. You just have to understand the process; it's whole grain! Several reviewers complained that the straps bled onto the pants. Two things happen here. Firstly, the belt is new, meaning freshly painted, and the belt has not been worn or bent, so this can happen with any recently dyed belt. There are products that can cure/set the paint but this is not to be expected at this price point and people will complain about the caulk smell instead. Then you might be wondering why my cheap dress belt isn't bleeding? That's because your cheap robe belt is braided leather at best, not solid leather so they can't bleed. However, they will break into pieces. Second, moisture and sweat make bleeding worse. In my opinion after you break in the belt and it bleeds a little there will be less if any. Wear them with pants of the same color, you won't even notice. alternatively, they only color the top and the sides, usually only a very thin layer, which leads to spots where the color rubs off and flakes off, so that the originally bright rawhide blank shines through and virtually destroys your colored belt. This happens fairly quickly, usually after a few wears on other belts. I bought wine color, a little darker indoors but much lighter wine 🍷 color in the sun. Don't be fooled by the lighter wine color of the inside, that's only because the bottom is the suede side of the leather, so it's always lighter. The closures of the Gelante are also very good. I tested them several times and there were no problems with their effectiveness. They remained firmly pressed against the skin after each test. TIP: Don't rip open the buttons of a belt like an animal, open them carefully one by one so that they last a long time, especially if you are one of those people who change buckles all the time. There are other belts on Revain that are similarly colored. However, no one has the same belt opening as the Gelante. They fit perfectly, even if your waist size varies. So the Gelante is a quality, durable belt at a price worthy of 5 stars. Now that you understand the process, you can make an informed decision. Update: After a few months I'm even more impressed. I call Gelante the best of them all! Now I have more colors and regularly check for new colors.
