Review on πŸš— Latest Release: BMW Navigator VI by Garmin - Advanced Navigation System for 2017 by Gabriel Salleh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great screen with some odd behavior

This is a world of improvement over the Navigator IV I replaced with it and would have gotten 5 stars except for two things: 1) The touchscreen behaves oddly at times, especially when it is cold (ie - below 50 degrees Fahrenheit). By that I mean that whatever spot I touch on the screen (gloved or not, it doesn't matter) actually activates a portion of the screen about 1/2 inch above. So, for example, when the keyboard comes up and I try to type the letter "H", the letter "D" comes up. This happens on all keyboards and other screens - it can be quite frustrating trying to type a search name while standing in the cold. This problem does happen from time to time - I called Garmin and they said they'd never heard of it - and once the ambient temperature warms up a bit it resumes normal behavior. If this happens again (as I know) and I have a camera handy I will take photos to send to Garmin (as of January 2018). ). That said, when he searches for restaurants, he doesn't find several near me that have all been in business for 5+ years. Of course, it would be understandable if the newly opened store had not yet been included in the data update, but the absence of old places is unacceptable. So for these reasons 3 stars. On the other hand, the screen is several orders of magnitude better than the Nav IV; it even outperforms the top-of-the-line Garmin Zumo 595; When my friend and I compared the Tour GPS, its 595 screen was almost as bad as my old Nav IV. If the Zumo 660 and Nav IV seemed almost identical except for some firmware, then the Nav VI doesn't even look like that Zumo 595 off. And while looks don't matter (although thankfully the Nav VI fits the Zumo 660 mounts I've installed on their bikes), the difference in screen is huge. The other big improvement over the Nav VI over IV is the speed at which it performs. From startup to typing search names etc, the VI seems to be at least 10x faster, with the IV taking up to 2 seconds to respond when I press a letter key (e.g. searching for a restaurant name). ) on the VI, the response time is almost instantaneous - again a huge improvement. So I'm leaving VI because it's infinitely easier to read in all lighting conditions and is also much more responsive to keystrokes. Missing companies are annoying, but hopefully someone from BMW at Garmin will find a way to provide more up-to-date information. And the odd screen behavior (again, sporadic) is something I'll keep an eye on when I can snap a few pics of it. Garmin sound service. When I called 800 again to report problems (I did it about a month ago just to point it out), this time after I got my ID from the phone number, the representative just said he had a UPS label would exhibit. take mine back and exchange it. I would like to say that customer service has once again proved to be the highlight of the process. If any of you using Garmin GPS didn't have this support, it could be because I called specifically for BMW OEMs, not generic (it can also be used for other OEMs like Harley, but the fact is that this is the case is not a general telephone number). Maybe that's why they treated me better, but in these days of terrible Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems and indifferent customer service teams, Garmin was a pleasure to deal with.
