I have been using Weller soldering products for 40 years. While working I came across a Weller soldering station for the first time. in the 1970s in a naval weapons factory and shortly thereafter again in a nuclear X-ray assembly plant. I first learned to solder with my father's giant soldering iron in the 1940's and later when I was doing finer electronic work. (as well as my Railroad and Arcade models) I've been using the Ungar 40W iron for years. it's versatility and reliability. With full temperature control, a choice of different soldering tips, and a variety of solders, I've found I have much more control and better solder joints for both electrical circuitry and brass joinery for building 1/4" model train locomotives! While I prefer a precision torch for silver soldering and most mechanical work, the Weller station with the appropriate tip also worked well with high temperature silver bearings and hard silver. Solder on tiny knots of brass that would have melted under the heat of my torch. Unfortunately, a lot has changed in my life lately and I no longer have machines, modeling tools and workbenches. On a smaller scale to keep my mind and fingers nimble I bought another Weller soldering station and use it for everything but heavy silver soldering. I am very satisfied with her and can warmly recommend her. This is a smaller version but built just as well as larger units with more features and rated up to 300W. But for basic electronic PCB work, jewelry making and repair and most modeling work this unit will do just about anything. Weller has an excellent warranty and return trip guarantee, and you know you can always find parts and factory service. Something cheap Chinese imports sold online and in retail stores lack. And the real plus is that you are dealing with an American company based in North Carolina!
