My son learned to ride a bike with this. It's not a flimsy pen, it's a sturdy, well-made, high-quality product. It has foam on the part that attaches to the bike to avoid scratching the bike. The grip on the handle is non-slip, the handle itself is thick, so it does not bend. This makes it easier to learn balance and also gives the rider the confidence to learn to ride a bike. This grip helps me not to wreck my back since I don't have to try to run next to a hunched rider. I can walk straight! This grip seems to fit my son better than the training wheels.
