Very good vegetable cutter, the best I've ever tried.

Tried several straw cutters over the past year. I like long strips of carrots with some muscle meat for dishes like coleslaw and others. I love the crunch and flavor boost that thin skins don't offer. I've tried cleaners designed this way. I tried mandolins. I was overwhelmed by the majority. I could write a report of all the tests I've done. This tool is accurate. The grip is strong. The protective cap is just the cap. You take it off and put it aside when using the tool. Too many other similar tools leave a cap attached to the tool to protect your fingers, but they rarely offer this type of protection. They manage to distract and intervene. For the best protection, choose a cut-resistant kitchen glove. With this tool you can cut carrots and other vegetables into long strips. I use a corn cob holder (Oxo brand) to secure the distal end of the vegetable to a cutting board, and then use this tool to pull along the other end. When using this technique, it helps to leave about 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the pierced end for vegetables. With this peeler you get nice clean cuts. I am not suprised. I've always had good luck with Kuhn Rikon instruments. They are well designed and well built. With good product design, it is important to be both. This tool gets the job done with ease. My only wish is that it would be nice if Kuhn-Rikon made a lateral-motion version of this tool instead of an in-line tool. I've seen other designs like this but haven't tried it. It seems to me that the side kick method could be even easier and maybe a bit safer.
