Review on 🚴 Experience Easy Navigation with Garmin Edge 130, a Compact GPS Cycling Computer by Michael Lucas

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Great hardware, battery could be better, terrible interface

This is a marvel of hardware engineering that could have better battery life combined with really idiotic interface software solutions. The rating ranges from 5 stars for the gadget to 1 star for the user interface. In case any Garmin marketer is reading these reviews, here's the rundown of the new UI team (and you definitely need a new one): 1) This is not a free or subsidized device. With accessories I spent over 200€. Therefore RULE #1: You have no right to my data. Is always. I should be able to check my stats on my phone without logging into Garmin and giving up my privacy. I need an extended screen, not an attempt to build a social network of Garmin users. This rant was about the Connect app which I had to uninstall, the rest was about the device itself. 2) My post is sacred. You can never question this. RULE #2: Don't ask me to confirm my previous choice. Every time I turn on the device, it asks me if I want to keep the backlight on. Oh yeah, my little red Garmin hat! Why did I turn on the backlight? F.ing sees you better in the dark! My eyesight hasn't improved.3) When I drive, I have to focus on the track. RULE #3: Under no circumstances can you ask a question or move me to another screen unless the speed is zero. It's that simple - it's not safe to read anyway. 4) If you still need me to make a choice, wait. RULE #4: Once you've asked a question, don't hesitate with the default answer - it's most likely wrong. Either cancel the question and return to the previous screen, or wait for me to stop somewhere safe. 5) My stats are sacred too. RULE #5: Under no circumstances should you delete any data without my permission. At the same time, saving data should not require confirmation - this is the only safe choice. Today it's the other way around - if I haven't saved the data, it's gone. It takes a lot of keystrokes to save data. 6) There must be a way to turn the backlight on and off automatically. This is done by significantly cheaper devices from your competitors. Yes, you must ask the amazing hardware design team to add that damn light sensor. Until then, maybe they can add more battery? Driving in the dark without a backlight is kind of pointless.
