If you can believe it I drove the first 60,000 miles without changing the engine air filter. I wondered why my acceleration was gradually dropping (very gradually - definitely not suddenly) and had no idea what to expect. When I went to my Toyota dealer for a 60,000 mile service, they said I had a VERY dirty engine air filter and offered to replace it. Since they never gave me an estimate, I figured I should probably try replacing it myself. pay what the hell. I don't like DIY cars, but I disassemble computers - how hard is it to change the filter? Luckily, there are great tutorial videos on YouTube, and many more are hosted on personal blogs. I just searched by year, make and model of my car and "replace engine air filter" and quickly found some great videos. The process is really simple and probably a lot cheaper than paying someone. On my 2008 Camry, all I had to do was lift the hood, locate the filter console, loosen the screws, and open the compartment to change the filter. It's pretty easy. As for the product itself, I don't know enough about other products to say if it's better, but I do know that after buying a $10 filter and 20 minutes of sweat, my Camry's acceleration has improved significantly. Not bad! Now I will change the filter every 20,000 km.
