I quickly learned to put the collar on and take it off. After watching a number of good instructional videos on how to properly use a spiked collar I find it to be a great learning tool. I recommend watching Sean O'Shea's tutorial videos from The Good Dog as well as videos from Argos Dogworks in Atlanta, GA before using it. Both have free videos that you can watch online. I have previously purchased the Herm Sprenger Neck Tech Training Collar but my dog seemed very nervous with it so he didn't get used to it after the first two tries. My dog is very fond of this collar and responds well to proper use. It corrects itself by twitching less and stopping when it wants to chase a squirrel, and any corrections I have to make are almost invisible to the human eye, yet effective. This was my goal as I have a driving strong dog and the flat collar for his neck/neck and my back seemed unsafe with the amount of adjustment required at random moments of jerking to follow the animal. So if you're still working on learning these things, the prong can be a great tool. I will note that while a notched collar may look intimidating, my dog went after a bow tie the other day, pulled us both tight, applied maximum pressure to this collar and was completely unimpressed. I was shocked that he didn't seem to feel it and didn't care about so much pressure. And I was very glad that didn't happen with the flat collar because that would probably have led to a trip to the vet to check his esophagus.
