Easy to use, feels less premium

We have just installed our gate at the top of the stairs. One of the features that sets this unit apart from other gates I've looked at and tried was the brackets that allowed it to be used on the wall with or without a baseboard. I didn't understand it from the description, but it was handy! What I don't like about this gate is that it can only be mounted on two opposite flat surfaces. I was hoping I could fold it up against the wall in an open position where no ladder needs to be secured. The locking mechanism is effective, but the plastic feels fairly light and flimsy. The bottom latch also seems useless. The tab on the underside of the latch, located in the bottom latch, does not have a trigger. So when it hits the latch in the middle, it doesn't seem to be able to be released. Lowering the support leg lowers the gate far enough for the tongue to slide out of the latch through two channels that allow for unimpeded opening/closing. It seems reliable enough, but it's just not clear to me how it works, and the bottom latch is only mentioned in the fine print on the last page of the instructions. One thing I noticed from other reviews was that the locking cams that control the width of the gate are not very secure. Other people seemed to find a solution to this - thread their screws through the parts to secure them in place, or maybe a pair of strategically placed zip ties would suffice. Once installed, I locked the four cams on my gate and was immediately able to slide them narrower or wider with little effort. scary as this can easily cause the latch to come loose. Another minor complaint is the color. The white is so bright that it almost looks bluish. I recently painted the slats and railings white and they stand out with a lot of contrast. However, I've tried every gate I could find on Revane and I'm not sure if the perfect one exists. Since there are already holes in the wall, this will remain for the time being. I hope this is helpful!
