Review on 🌬️ Mann-Filter CUK29005 HVAC Cabin Air Filter by Chris Weber

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great quality and fit but tedious installation

Fits perfectly on my 2012 Mercedes C250 although there is a soft plastic tag on the top which my OEM filter didn't have; However, this did not lead to any problems with the installation. It would be nice if this came in a sealed plastic bag as activated charcoal is known to degrade by absorbing odors with prolonged exposure to air (so it is recommended to replace it every year) and this item is not dated at least as far as I could see, so there's no way of telling how long it's been on display. The construction is solid and it's a well-made product. However, be prepared for a twisted back and a bit of swearing during the installation, which will likely take longer than the advertised "24 minutes". There are many videos on the internet about the installation process, but it's not as easy or quick as some make it out to be. Aside from a T20 Torx bit, I'd suggest a flashlight, gloves, and two flathead screwdrivers; There are some sharp metal and plastic parts to deal with and a metal clip (on the outside) to remove and this is where one of the flat blade screwdrivers is needed. There is a sliding white plastic piece that is fairly tight and you have to move inward to replace the old filter and then outward to install the new filter. I have found that you have to use one screwdriver to push the case down and the other to push that plastic element securely into the case as it slides over the tabs. Otherwise there'll be a lot of swearing while you're fumbling in the dark underneath the cutout in the glove box, where a flashlight comes in handy to see what you're doing. Make sure the arrow stamped on the bottom of the filter is facing the outside of the vehicle. In general, it took me 35-40 minutes to swap them out. I can understand why most dealers will charge around $100 of labor to replace one of these, but if you are even a little savvy you shouldn't have too many problems and will certainly save you some money. But have some aspirin ready for back pain after you're done.
