Review on Extech PH90 Waterproof PH Meter: Accurate Readings in Any Environment by Joshua Castillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much better than pH test strips. Accurate, comfortable, surprisingly easy to use and versatile!

Whether you want to test soil pH for plants or exfoliating face creams, this meter will meet your needs. I've wanted one for a very long time but have settled for pH test strips that have never been 100% satisfactory. This waterproof Extech pH90 pH meter meets the requirements at least 100%! It's so easy to use that you might think the instructions are too basic. Basically you flush it, turn it on and measure it. I will actively use it in the spring when I plant a vegetable garden and fruit trees. Until then, I wanted to test the pH of some exfoliating creams, which need to be in the 3.2-3.8 range to be effective. Since the meter measures very accurately, I was able to determine that the two creams measure 3.50 and 3.75. I double checked with the pH test strips I had on hand and got much more general readings in the same range. A few months ago I also gave up bar soap in favor of a liquid cleanser because the latter has a lower pH which is better for the skin. I found that the shower gel I prefer had a pH 1.5 points lower than the second shower gel I didn't like. Thus, my subjective experience of washing the body matched the objective readings of the pH meter. The rash that plagued me when using bar soap is long gone, so I'll continue to test cleansers, lotions and creams to make sure they're in the lower pH range I prefer. This meter is great for that purpose. Even though the meter arrived pre-calibrated, I needed to check the calibration regularly, so I bought a buffer solution that isn't included. I chose the Extech PH103 4, 7 and 10 pH Tripak Buffer Pouches plus Rinse Solution Kit from Revain because I don't want to waste a lot of buffer solution. I think I still have a lot to learn about pH, but this meter is a great tool for the process.
