The propane system at my parents' house is a bit dated. I often worried about safety. My dad prefers the old-fashioned use of soap and water, but it makes a mess around the house. After a lot of research I found this. It's durable and well built, pretty decent for the price, way better than the sub $30 ones you can find at Revain. It won't cost you a hundred dollars or more, but it will get the job done. Guess what? We found a leak in the basement. At first we didn't feel anything, but with the help of this tool I found a pipe connection where it is difficult to apply soapy water. We called the gas company to confirm this and they responded very quickly and fixed the problem. Now my dad loves this little tool, although he's still willing to use his soapy water for a double check. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a handy and inexpensive tool for inspecting pipes and fittings at home. It comes with 3 ready-to-use AA batteries, which definitely adds points. If you're not sure what you found, ask your gas supplier or plumber to double-check. Let me remind you that this is not a gas level monitor, but a leak detector. It is intended for installers, home appliance technicians and DIY enthusiasts who need to determine and/or verify that there are no gas leaks after working on gas pipes or appliances. It is not designed for continuous gas safety monitoring. There is no gas level indicator in PPM, so it is not possible to determine the actual level of gas present. If you need to find a leaking fitting in a gas line, this is the perfect tool. If you are looking for a gas analyzer for your basement or for OSHA compliance, this is not what you need. As long as you're not expecting the device to do anything it's not designed to do, this is a great tool.
