I like this monocular very much. He sees quite well at night, especially when there is a full moon, but a full moon is not necessary for this job. The maximum range I've seen in total darkness is about 200 meters. At full moon it is much further. This is a 1st generation night vision device so the picture isn't the clearest but it's worth it. IR light doesn't get far for me, even in pitch black surroundings, so I'll get an IR flashlight at some point. Magnification 3x, but I would like 1x. It would just suit my use case better if it was 1x, but that's not the limit as there are times when it's needed. It has a threaded tripod mount on the bottom so you can attach it to anything with the same thread. I've attached some photos when I used it on my beach. I tried to watch the sea turtles hatch but it wasn't their night. The city lights in the distance are of course clearly visible. The people in the photo were well over 150 meters away. And the moon reflected the light of the waves very beautifully. But if it wasn't for the moonlight, the water might not be as visible. All in all a great purchase.
