Review on ๐ŸŽง Tecsun Radio PL 380 Stereo Receiver: Experience Crystal Clear Sound by Sarah Zepeda

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent value for money, with good performance on AM and FM and lots of features.

Very good pocket multi-band walkie-talkie for the money. Here's what it's good for: battery life. This requires ordinary AA batteries (3), which last a long time. Measured current (power consumption) 30 mA at medium volume. It is very good! Batteries can last a very long time with occasional use, and AA batteries aren't all that expensive. It also has a battery level indicator on the front display (not the usual one, but very nice). It can also be powered from a standard full-size USB port (5 volts). Speaker Sound Quality: Not so good as the speaker is tiny, but the sound quality in the headphones is very good. An added bonus is that it works with standard iPhone stereo headphones. AM performance: good! It lags behind the GE SuperRadio in terms of sensitivity, but is slightly better than the Panasonic RF 2400 (the first edition of a true analogue radio). Selectivity is good, with adequate rejection of very strong near-frequency signals. It does this job better than CCrane EP or CCrane EP pro. This radio is tunable in 1kc increments (great feature) and can be tuned to the AM band in 10kc or 9kc increments. The performance is slightly weaker. Also working on long waves seems to be a bit weak. The FM performance is very good, again like the Am band, it allows for continuous tuning or incremental tuning (which needs to be tuned starting at the bottom of the band and then pressing the "ETM" button). Another very nice feature / All bands have a signal level indicator on the upper right corner of the LCD screen. It's a pity that there is no connection option for an analogue S-Meter. Other: It has a built in clock and alarm which might make it useful as a travel alarm clock/radio. Features a fold-out kickstand for desktop viewing/working. not so good: no external antenna socket, but the manual recommends connecting the antenna to the included retractable whip antenna. As a $49 radio and because of its very good performance I have to give this radio all five stars.

Pros
  • Up to 550 radio frequencies can be stored manually, semi-automatically, fully automatically (ATS): 100 FM/MW/LW stations each can be stored, shortwave can be stored.
Cons
