I see a lot of people cleaning them all the time to save a few bucks. Yes, the part is a bit expensive, but it will solve problems and you don't have to keep cleaning the old one. All this fuss with old, brittle plastic is sure to bite you at the third point of contact. It's not that hard to change, but if I remember correctly you need a gasket for that. In addition to the dodgy car dealer messing around with the throttle cable to cover up this issue, this part fixed the idle issues the car was having.
