Review on πŸ”§ XT AUTO Stainless Compatible Repair Kit by Chuck Hernandez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked great.

I had an M6x1.0 threaded hole on my motorcycle for attaching the gas tank, which the previous owner cut out. This kit did a great job fixing the hole. The hole was actually a nut that was welded to the bottom of the tank's mounting plate. The depth of the hole was less than the length of the thread repair bit. All you have to do is unscrew the bit to the limit of the hole, then break off the shank, then use a Dremel and a cutter wheel to snip off any threads sticking out of the bit. If you thread the insert under the end of the hole and try to break the shaft, simply pull the spool down and pull the threads out. The installation parts (drill, tap, installation tool) in this set are made from the finest Chinese alloy and can crack under heavy use, but the repair bits appear to be in pretty good shape. Be sure to use plenty of drilling oil when drilling and tapping a hole. Then clean the hole of oil and install the insert dry.

Pros
  • Easy to install: 1. Drill - Drill out damaged threads with the appropriate size drill bit provided. 2. Tapping - Tap the newly drilled hole with the supplied tap (lubricating oil recommended). Position the adjustable ring clockwise. 4. Shaft Removal - Use a ripper to remove the shaft.
Cons
