I got it specifically to install it in a desktop home computer. 90% are video games (many in 3D and kid-friendly). So I'll say that these uses do not necessitate 4 cores. 2 cores are more than sufficient. In general, I was going to purchase an i5, but after reading tests and comparisons, I learned that a good processor savings is possible, which eventually occurred. With an Asus P8H77V processor, 8 GB of RAM, a Palit GTX 660 graphic card, and an SSD drive, it can run any current games. I don't sense any performance issues.
