I have to admit I was a bit skeptical about this. Over the years I've upgraded my trusty old laptop and replaced the memory by turning it into a spinning hard drive. to SSDs etc. So when considering backup storage due to the recent spate of ransomware attacks, my first impulse was to invest in a portable SSD, but they are still a bit overpriced in terms of price per gigabyte. So I looked (with some reluctance) at the spinning cymbals. I'm glad I did. I got this WD Passport (2TB) for a very reasonable price. OK, we've cleared one hurdle, but what about PERFORMANCE? OK, I'm glad you asked. After downloading the drivers to my laptop so it could communicate with the hard drive, I transferred 65GB of files in a single transfer and it only took a few minutes. I checked again after the transfer and everything seems intact. Now you can't take them as casually as a USB stick or pocket SSD, but it looks built well enough and I've got a shockproof portable case too. Now I'm pretty happy that I have an encrypted "vault" for my most important files.
