I've never used a sponge like this before. I read a few reviews before buying them and read a lot of complaints that people can't hold sponges and sponges don't foam as much as cellulose sponges. Regarding the first complaint, although they are a bit less flexible, I had no problem getting a grip on the sponges and I'm in my 60's and have arthritis in my hands. The latter are not as "foamy" as cellulose, but perhaps this is due to the same properties that make the sponge unfavorable to bacterial growth. After applying the soap they foam for a while and that's enough for me. By rinsing this sponge under water, you can easily clean it completely. My guess is that the cell structure is more open than that of cellulose sponges. I can tell you that this sponge gives off NO odor even a few weeks after we started using it which is a huge plus. Some people also complained that it wasn't aggressive enough. I found it abrasive enough to clean regular dishes and even some pots and pans. If I was baking on food or something more resilient, I would either use another tool (like a scotchbrite pad) or soak the pan until the food is easier to remove. Thus, this sponge is delicate but quite strong, durable and bacteria does not multiply like on other sponges.
