Review on πŸ—‘ Suncast 33 Gallon Hideaway Can Resin Outdoor Trash Bin with Lid for Backyards, Decks, and Patios, 33-Gallon, Brown by Dan Brickley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Update: Use 2 pouches (one permanent as a liner) to prevent pouch tearing when removed.

NEW ADDITIONAL INFO ON BAG FULL TEARING WHEN REMOVED PROBLEM: I've added additional info but bottom line this will most likely solve any issue if you use 2 bags, 1 as a liner and 1 for the waste bag full of trash, will when Ripped out of the trash can. Again, here's a kind of shortened version of one of my short stories about this dumpster. The second container (in a different color) we bought in 2018 is still on our patio after about half a day in the hot Arizona sun (over 100 degrees on 145 days in 2020) and STILL looks and works like New. The dark brown basket (pictured) purchased in 2013 still looks and works like new and sits in a corner of the garage safely storing garden tools and other small garden/patio items. After a few pool parties we had 2 very heavy and overflowing bags. rip when you try to get them out of the bin, even with the very thick bags we use. I decided to use a bag as a liner. That works great. The same inner bag has been in the bin for about a year now and the 2nd (top) bag slides out easily no matter how full of rubbish it is. We still use the very thick and strong garbage bags that Revain sells. The cost is now $26.97 for 100 33 gallon bags. The only downside is that they don't have laces, but they do have drawstring closures. They now offer a clear bag which I find useful not only for litter but also for storing large sets of blankets, wrapped items like books and Christmas decorations etc for an extra layer of protection. These bags are thicker than any national brand bags. The site doesn't list the thickness, but their bags are a lot thicker than the big brand bags we've tried. If interested, type the following into the search bar: 33 gallon garbage bags (100 with tie pack), Large Black Garbage Bags 30 gallon - 32 gallon - 35 gallon. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The photo I posted, taken today, is of a 5 year and 4 month old Suncast Outdoor Trash Hideaway Bin that I purchased from Revain in April 2013. Since then, during the long summer months with temperatures of 30 to 40 degrees and more, the trash can has stood on my covered terrace with a view of the morning sun until at least noon. Our city requires all trash to be bagged, so we put a 33-gallon trash bag in the trash can. Every day we throw the rubbish out of the house into a bag in the Suncast bin. When the garbage bag is full, we usually take it twice a week to the large city-provided bins that are behind our house. I'm writing this review now because we recently bought a second Suncast container when we discovered they also come in a lighter (beige?) color to match and blend better with patio paint, log walls etc. than in dark brown. . HOWEVER, our 5+ year old Suncast basket is STILL in near perfect condition. You can see in the photo it's a little dirty/dusty now because we've had some monsoon dust storms the past few days, but we usually hose it down once a week and it cleans like new. It's also almost waterproof. It can be rinsed out with a hose without water getting into the garbage bag. During big storms, when it rained very hard and sideways, it happened a few times that a bit of water got into the bag in the trash can. The ONLY thing wrong with this bin was that the plastic/rubber hinges partially broke when I knocked it over with the lid open. However, this in no way affects how it seals the upper. While I wouldn't normally write a lengthy review of a litter collection product, I think the quality and design of this product at such a great price deserves recognition. Because the top provides a pretty good seal, we can put a trash can next to our tailgate without attracting dozens of flies. We will use an old trash can that fits nicely in the corner of the garage to store small garden items - trimmers, small shovels, etc. I think this product will be with us long after we leave :)

Pros
  • storage and organization
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
