Battery or device defective. Awaiting tech support

I have a 1914 house, a smaller house, and I've always been concerned about not being able to hear the smoke alarm downstairs in the basement. I bought these devices for family protection and safety, knowing that if they are all connected and something happens in the basement, we'll get an instant alert upstairs. Bought these on June 22nd they arrived a few days later. The installation went well again. The instructions are a bit confusing, I had to search the internet to figure out how to tie them all together. After connecting, I checked if everything is ok. Installs one in the basement, then the first floor, and then the first floor. I checked them as soon as I got them to stop and when I activated one in the basement it triggered the other two! It was wonderful! On August 10th something told me to double check these things. I went back to my basement, tried to look and got nothing from the block in the basement. No flickering light, no sound, nothing. I tested the downstairs one, it worked and activated the one above, but the one in the basement, now in my hand, didn't do anything. I contacted the company and spoke to someone. It's a bit hard to understand (language difference) but I took the battery out of a non-working device and put that battery in a device that I knew worked but didn't work. So battery? The support agent told me to send an email to support@x-sense.com. I did it on August 10th. I know it's only been a few days but I still haven't got "Thanks for contacting us. We'll get back to you soon." nothing. So I give him a few more days. I know batteries can be bad from the start. You can't have a 5 year old battery go dead in a month or a week or so. Might have been before, just know when I tested it and it failed. So was it a bad battery or a bad device that eats up battery life? I'm still waiting for an answer from x-sense. From what I heard from them, they weren't very concerned. I will update if support gets back to me or not.
