strong odor best in hard drive accessories

I have this for my external hard drive. Received and confused by the smell. I hope it clears up, but I'm not holding my breath. When I took it out of the plastic bag, I smelled a very strong odor. Maybe chemicals or materials. Stored outdoors on the counter for 5 days, the smell has not changed. I hope it goes away because it's perfect for my needs, it seems very strong and I'm sure the contents will be safe and sound. Very nice, soft inner fabric. I saw some other reviews about the smell.
