Great pocket gauge for beginners

I bought this template because I wanted to get into woodworking and wanted the best fit/finish that comes with pocket hole drill bits, biscuits, dowels or other fasteners. After some extensive research I found that the pocket gauge would be the most versatile and cost effective method. The Kreg R3 Pocket Jig is a great jig for beginners. It lacks the mounting brackets offered by Kreg's more expensive jigs, which allow you to assemble on a workbench and press the board against your work surface to mass produce quick pocket holes. Instead of taking the board to the workbench, take this jig to the board and press it directly against the board. This allows you to easily drill pocket holes on oversized boards (I drill a few 10ft boards), but at the expense of drilling pocket holes in many small boards quickly and consistently. Instead, you "build" this device every time. For me it was an acceptable compromise for the price. As I continue with my woodwork, I can supplement this fixture by purchasing a table mount. Pros - Easy to transport to get where the job is done. - Can be placed almost anywhere on any size board. - Affordable pocket jig build quality, I see it lasting as long as I own it - Comes with instructions, carry case for all parts and access to videos for those new to pocket jig - Allows for quick and high quality Link, my wife was blown away by how fast and how strong my first end table was. Cons - The portable nature of this jig requires you to spend a little setup time before drilling each hole compared to more expensive table mount jigs - it can be difficult to get good stable positioning of this jig. When using standard clamps, the Kreg KHC-PREMIUM End Clamp is almost mandatory when using this bracket
