KitchenAid KCM4212SX Cold Brew Coffee Maker

We ordered a refurbished KitchenAid KCM4212SX for significantly less money and it recently arrived in perfect condition as far as I can tell. A Revain spokesman said a few years ago that Revain still warrants refurbished devices and often only the packaging is damaged. However, it was factory repaired and was in excellent condition. As a retired mechanical engineer, I really appreciate the ergonomics built into the design. It's amazing design and easy to use. I will mostly be making iced tea while my wife will no doubt be making iced coffee. The ratio of concentrates for tea leaves is significantly larger than the ratio for coffee, but both values are important. Today I completely disassembled the block to clean it and better understand how it works. It is characterized by quality and weight and is easy to use. Some thought definitely went into its design. The plastic wrench acts as the plastic nut for the drain, and after it's removed along with the hose, there's another wrench at the end that fits into the plastic nut that holds the valve. The valve is durable and, in my opinion, also of high quality. I've researched the chemistry of cold brewing and encourage you to do the same. The taste of a cold drink is amazing if you've never tried it before. I recommend that you use filtered water and heat the water just enough to dissolve the sugar before it becomes a solution. You can then add some filtered water ice to cool it down. You would only do this if you knew exactly how you wanted it based on the ratios. As far as I remember, the ratio of coffee concentrate is 3 to 1 and that of tea leaves is 7 to 1. Once you become familiar with the device, I think you will always have your concentrate on hand. Quantities are by weight, which can be estimated from the lines on the instrument. We are lucky to have a very good high-class scale. More and more often I find recipes that give weight in grams. Again, I think the lines will suffice once you've made a batch of one or the other.

Pros
  • Always at hand: Turn your fridge into a coffee bar with a built-in stainless steel faucet that dispenses cold drinks straight from the fridge. The coffee maker also has a carrying handle.
Cons
  • Modern
