Product: TRENDnet TPL-406E2K We have a Wi-Fi dead zone and I avoid running cables just because I have to work in two basements with a false ceiling in between. Then I saw this little kit and realized that for the price it saves me a lot of work and it's not much more expensive than cables, plugs, wall plates etc. I was about to write a glowing review for the first time. I installed the kit one day and even emailed a friend saying how awesome it is. It was surprisingly easy to set up, and scrambling around to plug in adapters and run cables took longer than building and running an "extended" network. It has worked great until today, when two adapters lost the connection, nothing has changed in the house. I've tried new cables, updated firmware, reset adapters and nothing helps. I tried different outlets, even two in the same room, and the best I could get was a "bar" and 11Mbps (according to the utility that came with it). When I returned an adapter to its original location, the connection was lost. TRENDnet's online advice is to try to locate outlets away from other electronic devices. Good idea, but isn't the point of these things to use electronic devices like computers, TVs and game consoles that plug into an outlet? Should I move the adapter to another room and reconnect the network cable to my computer? I've often told others that "something is cheapest for a reason," and I seem to have ignored my own advice. So TRENDnet TPL-406E2K is back. While I'm tempted to pay twice as much as a similar kit from one of the big names in networking, I think you'll use this cable. I'm sure Revane sells good knee pads. <laugh>
