I like the handle and hook on the opposite side that allows you to place the colander on the sink or pot. This way you can hold the strainer with one hand and pour with the other, or detach the entire strainer and pour with both hands. Also, these filters are strong enough for my needs. It would take fairly rough handling of the filters to bend them. But if you are usually gross about material things, this may not be for you. I press the stitches fairly hard with a sponge to clean these stitches and I haven't ruined their shape yet. The only problem I have is that the mesh is so tightly woven that it's difficult to get all the food particles out. Do not set them aside or allow food to dry on them. Wash or soak them immediately. I've put them in the dishwasher a few times and they come out fine - clean and in their original condition. So far no rust. Rust was a big reason we got rid of our old filters. But they're stainless steel, so I'll be surprised if they rust soon or ever.
