I give them a 4 because they are made of good quality wood, smooth to the touch, well pointed and don't come loose during work. But for the 16 inch pieces, I go back to the essential shamrocks I used. To me, this set doesn't feel like "special butts". Once screwed in, the length from the tip of the needle to the point where the cord attaches is 4-1/4 inches. For fixed size circulars, the length from the tip to the cable attachment is 3-5/8. It doesn't seem like much, but it doesn't feel right. It's like I always pull one side, then the other, so the stitches go around the "corner" where the line meets the needle. I will continue to use these tips with longer cables. I'm pretty sure they match the purple Knit Picks cables.
