EDIT, 3/22/14: I just noticed that the manual says the signal is passive only and only transmits on DP++ ports becomes. Well my Dell Optiplex is DP only and the video streams normally. I often watch prime videos online here at Revain and have had no issues with the same Optiplex 780 as in the original review below. ================= == ====This is me the proud owner of a Toshiba 19L4200U LCD TV that I bought here at Revain a few months ago (see my Review). I wanted to use it as a second monitor for my new Win7 Pro (well used, retired) Optiplex 780. I mistakenly thought the latter had an HDMI connector, but it's a display port and won't carry audio. Don't worry I bought it here, hooked it up last Sunday and bam! Works great. This is important as the stated maximum resolution is what Toshiba is capable of. But here's an important trick: you won't get that resolution unless you first set up your dual monitors to match your TV's specs. Always choose a high definition monitor/TV as the first pair. The second, lower, has a lower resolution by default. If you don't, you "ground" your higher resolution monitor/tv in the other's lower resolution. Extended monitor or dual: the latter duplicates what you see on the screen. The first effectively INCREASES the width of the screen. So you could create a really big window on the "main screen" that overflows on another screen. This is only possible if you need to display two things side by side at a size too big to fit on one screen: or if your application allows you to pin one monitor over another. There are other cases where two screens play a role, but I can't think of them right now. PS: If you have trouble installing, you need to change your monitor settings or DisplayPort settings. For example, on my TV, I need to set the "Input Mode" to "HDMI2" because this is the port that the HDMI cable plugs into. So if I use the wrong "Input" mode for my TV, I can't see anything on the screen. The adapter is not to blame. It's a configuration problem on the machine.
