This product uses over 5 gallons per gallon produced - closer to 7 gallons. I measured while collecting waste water in a rain barrel to use in my garden. I was amazed at how much water was wasted. In addition, the installation took several days due to a leak over 6 hours and the fact that the system is so large that it cannot be placed under the kitchen sink. I had to install it in the basement below (ceiling mount). After the system was pressurized the little faucet that came with the unit leaked so badly that I had to shut down the entire system and now with all these problems I don't think I will continue to use this reverse osmosis system. I've noticed that my local hardware store has many water filtration options that aren't reverse osmosis but are multi-stage that don't waste as much water. I will go for it.
